Dog breed (you've probably never heard of) of the week.

This week's top dog is the Peruvian Inca Orchid, a hairless breed originating from ancient Peru. Pottery was discovered depicting this unusual breed from around 750AD, making them a truly primitive dog.

They were considered by the locals as good luck, owning these dogs for health benefits such as warmth and an aide to arthritis and respiratory problems.


Thought to be an ancient sighthound, the Peruvian Inca Orchid is agile, fast and intelligent, with an affectionate nature. They excel in coursing and hunting, and are available in both hairless and coated varieties.

They are relatively healthy dogs, but do require sunscreen on sunny days!
