Yesterday I had a phone call from my daughter, she was very distressed, her mum had left her the job of looking over the chilly in the pan while it cooked. This wasn’t a good idea. My wife went out and the next thing I’m getting a phone call that the house was full of smoke and the contents of the pan was now a burnt offering.
So, I had to leave work early and recook the tea. I collected the contents from the store and went home.
The smell of the burning was still in the air even though the entire house was fully aired by the opening of every possible window and door. My first job was to inspect the damage and see if anything was salvageable, Wow! the contents of the pan was like charcoal. So, I emptied the pan outside not considering that the three greedy labs of mine would even give a second of their attention.
Was I wrong? not that I noticed because I was busy remaking the chilly but two hours later Tango was coughing her guts up and so was Momo followed by the Doggy Dustbin Popcorn. You can imagine my concern until I saw the contents of the sick. Yes, it was the charcoal ingredients I had emptied on to the garden. Only a Labrador would even attempt to digest this disgusting pile of ashes.
So, I guess the moral of the story is…
Don’t ever underestimate what a Labrador will eat!
