Please put a penny in the old man’s hat.

I can remember it like it was yesterday, stood outside a total stranger's door singing my heart out with my childhood friends.

Always finishing our three well rehearsed carols and ending with this little verse, Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat

please put a penny in the old man's hat

If you haven't got a penny

then a half penny will do

if you haven't got that, then god bless you.

We then nervously stood there in hope, tentatively knocked on the door and held out our hands like Oliver Twist awaiting our prize.

I'm sure you have been there.

The words of this verse are so much more significant this year.

Times are hard and frightening days are ahead

But let's count our blessings and remember this beautiful time of the year.

It's time to share with the ones we love our family our friends.

The materialistic world can be forgotten for these few days.

Let's make sure everybody around us don't go with out the basics - heat, warmth and food and most of all love.

That applies also to man's best friend

Your dog doesn't need a silly hat or a bucket full of treats but he needs good nutrition, warmth and your love and attention and I'm sure a lovely special walk during the festivitie period.

That will bring a smile on your faces and help us put them problems behind us for a brief time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone of you out there for your support and wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We love you and your pets and great big sloppy kiss
